On April 22nd, participating Disney Store locations will be hosting a plastic bottle recycling program called "Recycling is Magic". The Disney Store is asking that you bring in 3 empty bottles and in exchange you will receive a FREE Earth Day reusable water bottle (with an approximate value of $8.50)!!

I would call your local store to be sure they are participating. While supplies last only. So probably best to get there early on the 22nd.

I am all about recycling......Did you know that juice pouches are not recyclable!! So when I saw this I thought this was the coolest thing ever......Look what TerraCycle makes out of recycled juice boxes!!!

-Pencil Cases
-Book bags
-Lunchboxes...just to name a few!!

And the best part is they donate 2 cents per drink pouch that was donated to a local charity!! They also turn many other hard-to-recycle items into great usable items as well!!

What to do With The Empties???

I am a huge fan of refilling our ink cartridges....as I have had much success with Walgreen's for this. I especially LOVE the Free refills they occasionally offer!!! They also have specials for 50% off ink refills too on occasion. But after a few refills....it's time for a fresh one!!

We just purchased a new ink cartridge for our printer the other day and got around to opening up the box tonight to install it. As I was opening the box a paper fell out and to the floor it dropped. I opened it up....and guess what it was??? A little prepaid envelope to mail back my empty ink cartridge to HP for recycling.

You also may want to check out Staples.....they also recycle ink cartridges as well. You get $3 in rewards per cartridge for recycling...... and will get paid at the end of each quarter as long as you earn $10 per quarter. Otherwise your amount will roll over to the next quarter. You must be a Staples Rewards member to participate in their program, if not a member you can sign up here Free!!

Staples program also offers 10% back in rewards on ink and toner, case and ream paper, and Copy & Print Center purchases as well.

Know of any other ink cartridge recycling programs??

Our Recycling Rewards!!!

As I had mentioned previously....our town has recently implemented a new recycling program called RecycleBank. We have had 2 pick-ups since the program began....and already I have redeemed some of our points and we received our 1st reward in the mail today!!!! For 50 points I received a $5/40 purchase at ShopRite. I am so excited!!!

I noticed myself since we received the big blue can....that I have been paying a little more attention to what gets recycled. This past week we only had one can full of trash....most weeks we always had at least 2!!! And our recycling can was almost filled to the top...and it is 96 gallons!!! I really think this program should be in all towns...it not only is great for the rewards...but also great for the environment as well!!! Here's hoping RecyleBank come to your town soon!

RecycleBank..Ever Heard of It???

After a few months of consideration our township has just decided to participate in a new Recycling program called RecycleBank. They just dropped of this new snazzy large wheeled cart the other day (see pic at right...)...it is so large I think me and the kiddies could fit inside...LOL LOL We are current recyclers now....we fill up our recycling bucket each and every week...yes, it is about 1/3 of the size of the new bucket...so we shall see if we can even fill up the new one half way......

There seems to be some great perks about this new RecycleBank program to encourage more recycling in our town. Here are a few of the highlights.....

-Convenience.....We will simply throw all of our recyclables into the Recycling Cart...there is NO need to sort recyclables anymore......just toss everything in the cart.

-Recycle More.....We can recycle more items than previously...We can now recycle aluminium cans, steel cans, tin cans, Plastic Containers #1, 2, Detergent Containers, Plastic Milk Containers, Glass bottles and jars, Cereal boxes, newspapers, telephone books, mixed paper, cardboard, and junk mail.

-Get Rewards....We can now earn rewards for recycling.....Each week the amount we recycle is calculated by an automated system on the Recycling truck and is then converted to recycle Bank points. These points can be converted to order rewards at participating partners including CVS, ShopRite, Kraft Products, Dick's Sporting Goods, and many more!!

It seems like an even better incentive to recycle even more than we currently do!! Recycling is a great way to save the environment and now for doing so we will be rewarded for our efforts!!! I am excited about the new program...and cannot wait for it to start in a few weeks.

Does you town use RecycleBank?? Maybe a program similar to it? Are there any cons about it? Please share I would love to know!!!

Bartering....Have You Tried It?

Have you ever bartered before?? Meaning have you ever traded services or goods without the exchange of money?? Now that economy is not as good as it used to be I hear that bartering is the new up and coming way to get theings and services you need. I am now noticing more ads in my local newspaper for bartering goods and services, plus Craigslist has a Bartering Category that is pretty popular these days. I myself have never tried it.... Sounds like a great idea though. Itseems like a great way to get rid of items you are no longer using or need and exchange them for an item/items that you would love to own or want. Now that I think back maybe I could have bartered some of Little Miss's baby items?? Would someone really want them? Would they really have something I needed or would have wanted in return? I had never even thought about it??

I would love to know if you have bartered before? Did it work out? Now that you look back was it a good experience for you? Any downside to the barter you participated in? Please share...as I am very curious to see if it actually works out well for both sides.

Great Uses For Newspaper.....

Have a stack of newspaper at the end of the week?? Clueless as to what to do with it besides recycling it?? Here are a few great uses for it.....

1. Have a Kitty...Then that means you must have a litter box too! Next time when you empty the litter box and clean it out, before you refill with kitty liter, place a few pieces of folded newspaper down first. This will make cleaning it out next time a bit easier...it will also help keep the odor down till next litter change as well!!

2. Use newspaper to wash the windows, glass table tops, mirrors, etc. Newspaper leaves less streaks than paper towels!! Just crumble it and wipe!!

3. Need to ship something breakable.....newspaper makes great packing material for breakables!!

4. Have messy crafty kids?? Newspaper is great to lay down before the start of a messy craft. When the craft is over all you have to do is roll-up the newspaper and throw the whole mess away!!

5. Need to ripen a tomato quickly?? Just wrap the tomato in newspaper and place it on the counter for 24 hours...now you have a ready to eat tomato!!

6. Have colorful comics from the Sunday paper?? Use them to wrap a present....frugal and cute!!

7. Have a smell trash can?? Use a few pieces of newspaper to line the bottom of the can...the newspaper will absorb the odor!!

Do you have another great use for newspaper?? Please feel free to add to the list....

Want To Help Save a Tree??

Well...this may also potentially save you some money as well actually! My mother-in-law asked me last week if there was somewhere for her to sign to stop receiving those darn catalogs in the mail each week. She said sometimes they are just too tempting not to order from!! I do not receive catalogs....if so very, very rarely...so I started searching online. I guess the catalog companies already know....I am a cheapie!! LOL LOL

So I found out that if you register here at Catalog Choice. They are a company that offers a free service that allows you to decide what gets in your mailbox. Use it to reduce your mailbox clutter, while helping save natural resources. This is good for merchants too...as now they are spending less money to send out catalogs to people who are not interested in them...and trashing them!!

Here's to saving the environment and maybe some money too!!

Spring Cleaning!!!

Ah yes...my absolute favorite time of year...really!!! I love springtime when for some reason I feel the absolute need to clear out closets, go threw the attic, clean out the shed, go threw the garage....etc. I constantly find myself getting rid of this, or that...things we no longer have a need for or have not used in a long while. So what to do with all the stuff we no longer have a place in our home for?? What better than to Freecyle it?

I love Freecyle!! I have been freecycling now for about 4 years now. It is a great site!! If you have something you no longer want/or need....you simply post it to the site and if someone would like it they will email you back for a pick-up time. I have seriously really cleaned out my house over the years threw Freecycle!! I have also gotten a few great items from it as well!! A few years back someone posted Free Weights and hubby and I headed over and picked them up....he used them to workout with until just this past December...when I bought him a new set of weights and bar for Christmas. Not to worry....we Freecycled them to someone else who was so excited to receive them!!! I have also recieved diapers, baby food, kids toys, and more!!

That is another great part of Freecyle..it really is a community!! I have met a lot of great people threw Freecyle. Even people who live just a few blocks away from us!!! As the name says it is totally FREE!!! Free to join...Free to post offers...and Free to receive!! There are so many Freecyle groups now...there is almost certainly one in your neighborhood! It is amazing to find out that the vase you got for Christmas from your Auntie a few years back is now "so loved" by it's new owner who adores it!!! It's a great feeling to makes someones day...like they say "Another Mans trash is someone else's Treasure"!!
